The Knesset Committee for Combating Poverty headed by Elie Elaluf has submitted their findings and recommendations to the government. Below please find RHR’s response to their report.
Rabbis for Human Rights:
The Committee for Combating Poverty headed by Elie Elaluf has declared a worthy, focused and unambitious goal of Israel reaching the average OECD poverty rate within ten years. We hope that the government will adopt this minimum goal to fight poverty and find a way to reach it. It is regrettable that we are already hearing voices hinting that the government will not adopt all of the parts of the report or will not fund them. The government must put in place an achievable program to reach the Elalouf report’s miminal goal and cease perceiving the fight against poverty as a burden on the budget rather than a social investment to bear fruit in the future.
