A Hebrew article on Ynet on recommendations for the war on poverty cites the criticism of Rabbi Idit Lev of RHR against the current state budget.
Two excerpts from the article:
“The 1.6 million Israelis who live below the poverty line will not get a fair hearing in the upcoming state budget, despite the recommendations of the committee to Fight Poverty. Social welfare organizations have warned: ‘There are positive measures in the budget, but if the government does not instate clear and measurable goals – they will remain but a pittance.’”
“Rabbi Idit Lev, Director of Social Justice for ‘Rabbis for Human Rights’, explained that the state budget does not include targets for reducing poverty. The State did not define for itself an appropriate number of people there should be living in poverty in Israel, what steps are planned to achieve the target and who in the Israeli government is responsible for the war on poverty. ‘There are some small steps in a few [government] offices, but no overall plan.’ She noted that the plan proposed to the previous government by the Alaluf Committee received no mention in the current budget.”
